What is the difference between mild steel and stainless steel?

Mild steel is an economical and versatile option, ideal for indoor or covered areas where exposure to moisture is limited. It costs significantly less than stainless steel and can be painted or coated. However, it is more susceptible to rust if not properly maintained.

Stainless steel is known for its durability, corrosion resistance, and clean silver finish. It is especially recommended for coastal or high-moisture environments. Although more expensive, stainless steel offers superior longevity and requires less maintenance over time.

Which grid is stronger: diamond mesh or round bar?

Round bar grids are generally stronger and more resistant to bending due to their thicker construction. They are highly durable and ideal for long-term use.

Diamond mesh grids are also sturdy and effective but may sag over time, especially under heavy loads or high heat.

If durability is your priority, we recommend round bar grids.

What does a custom ash pan or grid cost?

The cost depends on several factors:

The size required
The type of steel (mild or stainless steel)
The thickness of the material (commonly 1.2mm or 1.6mm)
The type of grid (round bar or diamond mesh)
The frame type

What is the average lead time for a custom-made braai?

Lead times depend on the material and design complexity:

Mild steel: Approximately 2 weeks
Stainless steel: Approximately 3–4 weeks

More detailed or intricate designs may require additional time.

Do you have a showroom?

We do not have a formal showroom. However, you are welcome to make an appointment to visit our braai maker, Rudi, at our premises to view our workmanship and discuss your specific requirements.
